Growing Up..

Heh, so true!

So no one ever tells you what it is like to be a grown up.

As a child, grown ups were the people who took care of me. I didn't have to worry about things, you had to "worry" about them when you were older. Grown ups would take care of everything. When planning for a trip or vacation they planned, packed, and made sure everything was taken care of. Even on a more day to day basis, my Mom would get me ready for school, pack our lunches, and make sure that we were all out the door on time. Quite frankly I have no idea how she managed to do that with two kids and a dog let alone herself!

So you grow up a bit..so you have grown up..not to be confused with a grown up - very different! Take a college student, so at this point you can now live on your own (or atleast in  a college setting). You still depend heavily on your parents, but you now have a bit more self-confidence that you would do okay as a functioning adult in society. You are hopeful that after 4 years in college that you can get a job and live on your own..

I saw this quote in a book the other day..it made me stop and think..and not often does that happen since I pretty much ready trashy, young adult, romance novels. Sorry not sorry.

No one ever asks a kid for her opinion, but it seems to me that growing up means you stop hoping for the best and start expecting the worst. So how do you tell an adult that maybe everything wrong in the world stems from the fact that shes stopped believing the impossible can happen

Whoa.

As sad and depressing as this it, I think it is completely truthful. As an adult you loose your sense of hoping for the best and almost instinctively start planning for the worst. When packing for vacation or a trip, I always pack "my just incases" like things I don't want to pack but if the worst were to happened I would be somewhat prepared.

Getting ready for work, I time leaving the house so that I would still make it to work on time if I hit traffic or if there is an accident..planning for the worst.

I now go to work day in and day out not hoping that a better or even different opportunity will come along but just accepting that this is what I am supposed to be doing as an adult.

The same goes for relationships, as a child or even a young adult you hope for the best, you assume one day you will find the love of your life and you are hopeful that you will find him sooner rather than later. As adults we pretty much give up on hoping for the best and we settle. We stop hoping that our boyfriend/fiancee/husband will do something extraordinary and surprise us, we don't expect to be swept off our feet at any minute, we don't hope that the future will be brighter than our past. We just kind of assume the impossible is exactly that... impossible.

This may be one of my more depressing posts and maybe you think that I am totally off and wrong about this - in that case, get your own blog!! just kidding! - but the truth is as we "grow up" all we are doing is loosing hope in ourselves and in our future. Which is terrible!

Growing up is optional.

So do me a favor, be hopeful and inspired that tomorrow will be better than yesterday.
